RDC provides world-class subject matter expertise in workflow automation and use of XML for Electronic Data Interchange. We have designed workflow, interfaces and transactions (as well as schema for validation) and have introduced the first bi-directional XML workflow in Canadian Healthcare. We support cXML and currently do 'punch-out' with preferred hospitals suppliers. We provide expert advice to governments, private sector and healthcare providers on use of XML standards to reduce costs while improving service delivery and operational performance. Extensible Markup Language (XML) ... is the bi-directional, computer-to-computer transmission of structured data in a standard format that reflects a distinct business context or transaction. In addition to EDI, XML is a emerging web enabled messaging standard. XML is a subset of SGML that is also the mother of HTML. XML uses SGML syntax to transport components across a network or the Internet. In terms of e-commerce, XML is a language geared towards transmitting documents in a structured format across the World Wide Web. RDC works on the bleeding edge of XML, supporting both outbound, and more importantly, the processing of inbound XML, including validation and processing of inbound XML into back-office systems thought to be unable to support the latest transaction exchange standards. RDC products support any XML transaction and associated validation rules (Schema or DTD). XML - Workflow Enabler Essentially, one can exchange information and present it through a browser to the "business person" who then can add some data and signal an approval. Embedded information can be migrated to internal systems. In this way, either a person (through a web browser) or a business application can process the message. Every time the XML file is exchanged with a trading partner, it will become larger, containing new updated information that includes tagged data elements. The possible combination of XML and EDI semantics provides a framework where sets of differing technologies may work together to create a format or template that is usable by EDI applications and users (through a browser or XML enabled desktop application). XML Templates and Style Sheets Templates are rules that determine how XML files should be interpreted. They define the layout and “Document Type Definitions” or in EDI lingo, "Implementation Guides" that support transaction operability. XML "agents" interpret templates to perform business tasks and can interact with other transactions to help users create new templates for each specific task (sometimes called "transaction turnaround"). An XML repository is a location where shared Internet directories are stored and where trading partners look up the meaning of XML/EDI tags – the repository is the semantic foundation for business transactions and is a model to introduced business process "standards".
